BACKGROUND: Age-related visceral obesity could contribute to the development of cardiometabolic complications. The pathogenesis of visceral fat mass accumulation during the aging process remains complex and largely unknown. Interleukin-6 (IL-6) has emerged as one of the prominent inflammaging markers which are elevated in circulation during aging. However, the precise role of IL-6 in regulating age-related visceral adipose tissue accumulation remains uncertain. RESULTS: A cross-sectional study including 77 older adults (≥65 years of age) was initially conducted. There was a significant positive association between serum IL-6 levels and visceral fat mass. We subsequently validated a modest but significant elevation in serum IL-6 levels in aged mice. Furthermore, we demonstrated that compared to wildtype control, IL-6 deficiency (IL-6 KO) significantly attenuated the accumulation of visceral adipose tissue during aging. Further metabolic characterization suggested that IL-6 deficiency resulted in improved lipid metabolism parameters and energy expenditure in aged mice. Moreover, histological examinations of adipose depots revealed that the absence of IL-6 ameliorated adipocyte hypertrophy in visceral adipose tissue of aged mice. Mechanically, the ablation of IL-6 could promote the PKA-mediated lipolysis and consequently mitigate lipid accumulation in adipose tissue in aged mice. CONCLUSION: Our findings identify a detrimental role of IL-6 during the aging process by promoting visceral adipose tissue accumulation through inhibition of lipolysis. Therefore, strategies aimed at preventing or reducing IL-6 levels may potentially ameliorate age-related obesity and improve metabolism during aging.

Introduction: Physical exercise is considered a useful non-pharmacological adjunctive treatment for promoting recovery from substance use disorders (SUD). However, adherence to physical exercise treatments is low, and little is known about what factors are associated with the initiation and maintenance of physical exercise behaviors. The aim of this study was to explore the psychosocial factors underlying these behaviors in individuals with SUD using an integrated theoretical model based on the health action process approach (HAPA) and the theory of planned behavior (TPB). Methods: A total of 1,197 individuals with SUDs (aged 37.20 ± 8.62 years) were recruited from 10 compulsory isolation drug rehabilitation centers in Zhejiang Province via convenience sampling according to a set of inclusion criteria. Self-reported data were collected to assess task self-efficacy (TSE), maintenance self-efficacy (MSE), recovery self-efficacy (RSE), outcome expectations (OE), action planning (AP), coping planning (CP), social support (SS), subjective norms (SN), attitude behavior (AB), behavioral intention (BI), perceived behavioral control (PBC), risk perception (RP), exercise stage, and exercise behavior in this integrated model. ANOVA and structural equation modeling (SEM) were used to evaluate this model. Results: One-way ANOVA revealed that the majority of the moderating variables were significantly different in the exercise phase. Further SEM showed that the model fit the data and revealed several important relationships. TSE, RP, SS, AB, and SN were indirectly associated with physical exercise behavior in individuals with SUD through the BI in the SUD initiation stage. In addition, PBC was directly related to physical exercise behavior in individuals with SUD. In the maintenance stage, MSE, AP, CP and exercise behavior were significantly related. Moreover, AP and CP were mediators of BI and MSE. Conclusion: This study is the first attempt to integrate patterns of physical exercise behavior in individuals with SUD. The HAPA-TPB integration model provides a useful framework for identifying determinants of physical exercise behavioral intentions and behaviors in individuals with SUD and for explaining and predicting the initiation and maintenance of physical exercise behaviors in these individuals. Moreover, the model provides scientific guidance for the enhancement of physical exercise adherence in individuals with SUD.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is prevalent, and no satisfactory therapeutic options are available because the mechanisms underlying its development are poorly understood. In this study, we discovered that increased expression of methyltransferase-like 3 (METTL3) in macrophages was correlated with the development of colitis and that depletion of METTL3 in macrophages protected mice against dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced colitis. Mechanistic characterization indicated that METTL3 depletion increased the YTHDF3-mediated expression of phosphoglycolate phosphatase (PGP), which resulted in glucose metabolism reprogramming and the suppression of CD4+ T helper 1 (Th1) cell differentiation. Further analysis revealed that glucose metabolism contributed to the ability of METTL3 depletion to ameliorate colitis symptoms. In addition, we developed two potent small molecule METTL3 inhibitors, namely, F039-0002 and 7460-0250, that strongly ameliorated DSS-induced colitis. Overall, our study suggests that METTL3 plays crucial roles in the progression of colitis and highlights the potential of targeting METTL3 to attenuate intestinal inflammation for the treatment of colitis.

Hydro-depolymerization presents a promising avenue for transforming plastic waste into high-value hydrocarbons, offering significant potential for value-added recycling. However, a major challenge in this method arises from kinetic limitations due to insufficient hydrogen concentration near the active sites, requiring optimal catalytic performance only at higher hydrogen pressures. In this study, we address this hurdle by developing "hydrogen bubble catalysts" featuring Ru nanoparticles within mesoporous SBA-15 channels (Ru/SBA). The distinctive feature of Ru/SBA catalysts lies in their capacity for physical hydrogen storage and chemically reversible hydrogen spillover, ensuring a timely and ample hydrogen supply. Under identical reaction conditions, the catalytic activity of Ru/SBA surpassed that of Ru/SiO2 (no hydrogen storage capacity) by over 4-fold. This substantial enhancement in catalytic performance provides significant opportunities for near atmospheric pressure hydro-depolymerization of plastic waste.

Carpesabrolide A (1), featuring an unprecedented fumaric acid-guaiane sesquiterpenoid hybrid, has been isolated from the folk medicinal plant Carpesium abrotanoides. The structure with absolute configuration has been established by spectroscopic methods and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The plausible biosynthetic pathway for 1 is proposed. Compound 1 shows significant anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting NO production with an IC50 value of 2.7 µM.

Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) is a widely applied technique for accurately assessing the expression of target genes. In practice, the evaluation of gene expression requires appropriate reference genes. To screen reliable reference genes for evaluating gene expression via qRT-PCR in Mythimna loreyi, a notorious migratory pest across Asia, Africa, Europe, and Australia, we assessed the expression stability of 13 candidate reference genes in M. loreyi using the ΔCt method, BestKeeper, Normfinder, GeNorm, and the web-based comprehensive platform RefFinder. These reference genes include RPL10, RPL27, RPL32, RPS3, TATA-box, GAPDH, AK, Actin, EF, α-tubulin, SOD, 18S rRNA, and FTZ-F1, which is frequently employed in Lepidoptera insects. Our findings revealed that the performance of the candidate reference gene depended on experimental conditions. Specifically, RPL27 and RPL10 were the most suitable for evaluating expression changes across developmental stages, tissues, and adult ages. The optimal reference genes were recommended in specific experiment conditions, for instance, EF and RPS3 were recommended for mating status, AK and RPL10 were recommended for temperature treatments, RPL27 and FTZ-F1 were recommended for larva diet, and EF and RPL27 were recommended for adult diet treatments. Additionally, expression profiles of pheromone-binding protein 2 (MlorPBP2) and glutathione S-transferase (MlorGST1) were used to validate the reference genes. This study provides reference genes for the accurate normalization of qRT-PCR data, laying the groundwork for studying the expression of target genes in M. loreyi.

Triple motif protein 21 (TRIM21) has an antiviral function that inhibits various viral infections. However, its role in the progress of influenza A virus (IAV) infection is unclear. In this study, we investigated the role and molecular mechanism of TRIM21 in IAV infection. RT-qPCR was used to determine the level of TRIM21 mRNA, and ELISA was used to measure the levels of IFN-α, IFN-ß, IL-6, and TNF-α. The levels of the TRIM21, NP, TBK1, IRF3, p-TBK1, and p-IRF3 proteins were estimated by Western blot. The results showed that, after IAV infection, TRIM21 was upregulated in clinical patient serum and A549 cells, and this was correlated with the IFN response. Overexpression of TRIM21 reduced IAV replication and transcription in in vitro cell experiments. TRIM21 also increased IFN-α and IFN-ß levels and decreased IL-6 and TNF-α levels in A549 cells. In addition, overexpression of TRIM21 inhibited IAV-induced apoptosis. Further experiments demonstrated that TBK1-IRF3 signaling was activated by TRIM21 and was involved in the inhibitory effect of TRIM21 on virus replication. In summary, our study suggests that TRIM21 inhibits viral replication by activating the TBK1-IRF3 signaling pathway, further inhibiting the infection process of IAV.

Photothermal therapy (PTT) of nanomaterials is an emerging novel therapeutic strategy for breast cancer. However, there exists an urgent need for appropriate strategies to enhance the antitumor efficacy of PTT and minimize damage to surrounding normal tissues. Piezo1 might be a promising novel photothermal therapeutic target for breast cancer. This study aims to explore the potential role of Piezo1 activation in the hyperthermia therapy of breast cancer cells and investigate the underlying mechanisms. Results showed that the specific agonist of Piezo1 ion channel (Yoda1) aggravated the cell death of breast cancer cells triggered by heat stress in vitro. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) production was significantly increased following heat stress, and Yoda1 exacerbated the rise in ROS release. GSK2795039, an inhibitor of NADPH oxidase 2 (NOX2), reversed the Yoda1-mediated aggravation of cellular injury and ROS generation after heat stress. The in vivo experiments demonstrate the well photothermal conversion efficiency of TiCN under the 1,064 nm laser irradiation, and Yoda1 increases the sensitivity of breast tumors to PTT in the presence of TiCN. Our study reveals that Piezo1 activation might serve as a photothermal sensitizer for PTT, which may develop as a promising therapeutic strategy for breast cancer.

BACKGROUND: Alfalfa (Medicago sativa. L) is one of the best leguminous herbage in China and even in the world, with high nutritional and ecological value. However, one of the drawbacks of alfalfa is its sensitivity to dry conditions, which is a global agricultural problem. The objective of this study was to investigate the regulatory effects of endogenous nitric oxide (NO) on endogenous hormones and related miRNAs in alfalfa seedling leaves under drought stress. The effects of endogenous NO on endogenous hormones such as ABA, GA3, SA, and IAA in alfalfa leaves under drought stress were studied. In addition, high-throughput sequencing technology was used to identify drought-related miRNAs and endogenous NO-responsive miRNAs in alfalfa seedling leaves under drought stress. RESULT: By measuring the contents of four endogenous hormones in alfalfa leaves, it was found that endogenous NO could regulate plant growth and stress resistance by inducing the metabolism levels of IAA, ABA, GA3, and SA in alfalfa, especially ABA and SA in alfalfa. In addition, small RNA sequencing technology and bioinformatics methods were used to analyze endogenous NO-responsive miRNAs under drought stress. It was found that most miRNAs were enriched in biological pathways and molecular functions related to hormones (ABA, ETH, and JA), phenylpropane metabolism, and plant stress tolerance. CONCLUSION: In this study, the analysis of endogenous hormone signals and miRNAs in alfalfa leaves under PEG and PEG + cPTIO conditions provided an important basis for endogenous NO to improve the drought resistance of alfalfa at the physiological and molecular levels. It has important scientific value and practical significance for endogenous NO to improve plant drought resistance.

BACKGROUND: Prusogliptin is a potent and selective DPP-4 inhibitor. In different animal models, Prusogliptin showed potential efficacy in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. However, the knowledge of its pharmacokinetics and safety in patients with liver dysfunction is limited. OBJECTIVES: The present study evaluated the pharmacokinetics and safety of Prusogliptin in subjects with mild or moderate hepatic impairment compared with healthy subjects. METHODS: According to the liver function of the subjects, we divided them into a mild liver dysfunction group, a moderate liver dysfunction group and a normal liver function group. All subjects in three groups received a single oral dose of Prusogliptin 100-mg tablets. Pharmacokinetics and safety index collection was carried out before and after taking the drug. Plasma pharmacokinetics of Prusogliptin were evaluated, and geometric least- -squares mean (GLSM) and associated 90% confidence intervals for insufficient groups versus the control group were calculated for plasma exposures. RESULTS: After a single oral administration of 100 mg of Prusogliptin tablets, the exposure level of Prusogliptin in subjects with mild liver dysfunction was slightly higher than that in healthy subjects. The exposure level of Prusogliptin was significantly increased in subjects with moderate liver dysfunction. There were no adverse events in this study. CONCLUSION: The exposure level of Prusogliptin in subjects with liver dysfunction was higher than that in healthy subjects. No participant was observed of adverse events. Prusogliptin tablets were safe and well tolerated in Chinese subjects with mild to moderate liver dysfunction and normal liver function.

BACKGROUND: The relationship between vitamin D status and mortality among adults with hypertension remains unclear. METHODS: This prospective cohort study involved a sample of 19,500 adults with hypertension who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2001 to 2018. We utilized a weighted COX proportional hazard model to assess the association between vitamin D status and mortality. This statistical model calculates hazard ratios (HR) and their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% CI). RESULTS: The study indicated that lower serum 25(OH)D concentration was associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality among individuals with hypertension. Specially. Those with concentrations between 25.0 and 49.9 nmol/L (HR = 1.71, 95%CI = 1.22-2.40) and less than 25.0 nmol/L (HR = 1.97, 95%CI = 1.15-3.39) had higher hazard ratios for all-cause mortality. Individuals with hypertension who took vitamin D supplements had a lower risk of all-cause mortality, but not the risk of CVD mortality (HR 0.75, 95%CI 0.54-1.03), compared to those who did not supplement (HR = 0.76, 95%CI = 0.61-0.94). Subgroup analysis further revealed that vitamin D supplementation was associated with a reduced risk of all-cause mortality among individuals without diabetes (HR = 0.65, 95%CI = 0.52-0.81) and individuals without CVD (HR = 0.75, 95%CI = 0.58-0.97), and a decreased risk of CVD mortality among individuals without diabetes (HR = 0.63, 95%CI = 0.45-0.88) and without CVD (HR = 0.61, 95%CI = 0.40-0.92). Furthermore, higher-dose vitamin D supplementation was also associated with a greater reduction in all-cause mortality among hypertensive individuals, and there was the potential synergistic effect of combining normal-dose calcium and vitamin D supplementation, showing a superior effect on mortality compared to low-dose supplementation in adults with hypertension. CONCLUSIONS: This prospective cohort study demonstrated a significant association between lower serum 25 (OH)D concentration and increased all-cause mortality among adults with hypertension. Furthermore, the study found that vitamin D supplementation had a strong and significantly positive correlation with reduced all-cause and CVD mortality among hypertensive individuals without diabetes or CVD. This positive correlation suggests that vitamin D supplementation could potentially be an effective strategy to reduce the risk of mortality in this specific group of people.

Twenty-five percent of cervical cancers are classified as endocervical adenocarcinomas (EACs), which comprise a highly heterogeneous group of tumors. A histopathologic risk stratification system known as the Silva pattern system was developed based on morphology. However, accurately classifying such patterns can be challenging. The study objective was to develop a deep learning pipeline (Silva3-AI) that automatically analyzes whole slide image-based histopathologic images and identifies Silva patterns with high accuracy. Initially, a total of 202 patients with EACs and histopathologic slides were obtained from Qilu Hospital of Shandong University for developing and internally testing the Silva3-AI model. Subsequently, an additional 161 patients and slides were collected from seven other medical centers for independent testing. The Silva3-AI model was developed using a vision transformer and recurrent neural network architecture, utilizing multi-magnification patches, and its performance was evaluated based on a class-specific area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve. Silva3-AI achieved a class-specific area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve of 0.947 for Silva A, 0.908 for Silva B, and 0.947 for Silva C on the independent test set. Notably, the performance of Silva3-AI was consistent with that of professional pathologists with 10 years' diagnostic experience. Furthermore, the visualization of prediction heatmaps facilitated the identification of tumor microenvironment heterogeneity, which is known to contribute to variations in Silva patterns.

Emerging literatures have concentrated on the association between cardiovascular diseases risk of typical endocrine disruptor bisphenols, which also put forward the further studies need respect to the potential mechanism. Herein, we investigated the endothelial dysfunction effects of bisphenols and brominated bisphenols involved in aortic pathological structure, endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) protein phosphorylation, synthase activity and nitric oxide (NO) production in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and C57BL/6 mice. Bisphenol A (BPA) and bisphenol S (BPS) increased NO production by 85.7% and 68.8% at 10-6 M level in vitro and 74.3%, 41.5% in vivo, respectively, while tetrabromobisphenol S (TBBPS) significantly inhibited NO by 55.7% at 10-6 M in vitro and 28.9% in vivo at dose of 20 mg/kg BW/d. Aortic transcriptome profiling revealed that the process of 'regulation of NO mediated signal transduction' was commonly induced. The mRNA and protein expression of phosphorylated eNOS at Ser1177 were promoted by BPA and BPS but decreased by TBBPA and TBBPS in HUVECs. Phosphorylation and enzymatic activity of eNOS were significantly increased by 43.4% and 13.8% with the treatment of BPA and BPS at 10-7 M, but decreased by 16.9% after exposure to TBBPS at 10-6 M in vitro. Moreover, only TBBPS was observed to increase aorta thickness significantly in mice and induce endothelial dysfunction. Our work suggests that bisphenols and brominated bisphenols may exert adverse outcome on vascular health differently in vitro and in vivo, and emphasizes areas of public health concern similar endocrine disruptors vulnerable on the vascular endothelial function.

The main challenges of nanozyme-based tumor catalytic therapy (NCT) lie in the unsatisfactory catalytic activity accompanied by a complex tumor microenvironment (TME). A few nanozymes have been designed to possess both enzyme-like catalytic activities and photothermal properties; however, the previously reported nanozymes mainly utilize the inefficient and unsafe NIR-I laser, which has a low maximum permissible exposure limit and a limited penetration depth. Herein, we report for the first time an all-in-one strategy to realize mild NIR-II photothermally amplified NCT by synthesizing amorphous CoSnO3 nanocubes with efficient triple enzyme-like catalytic activities and photothermal conversion properties. The presence of Co2+ and Sn4+ endows CoSnO3 nanocubes with the triple enzyme-like catalytic activities, not only achieving enhanced reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation through the Co2+-mediated peroxidase-like catalytic reaction to generate ˙OH and Sn4+-mediated depletion of overexpressed GSH, but also realizing the catalytic decomposition of endogenous H2O2 for relieving tumor hypoxia. More importantly, the obtained CoSnO3 nanocubes with a high photothermal conversion efficiency of 82.1% at 1064 nm could achieve mild hyperthermia (43 °C), which further improves the triple enzyme-like catalytic activities of the CoSnO3 nanozyme. The synergetic therapeutic efficacy of the NIR-II-responsive CoSnO3 nanozyme through mild NIR-II PTT-enhanced NCT could realize all-in-one multimodal tumor therapy to completely eliminate tumors without recurrence. This study will open a new avenue to explore NIR-II-photoresponsive nanozymes for efficient tumor therapy.

The nonequilibrium Fermi's golden rule (NE-FGR) approach is developed to simulate the electronic transitions between multiple excited states in complex condensed-phase systems described by the recently proposed multi-state harmonic (MSH) model Hamiltonian. The MSH models were constructed to faithfully capture the photoinduced charge transfer dynamics in a prototypical organic photovoltaic carotenoid-porphyrin-C60 molecular triad dissolved in tetrahydrofuran. A general expression of the fully quantum-mechanical NE-FGR rate coefficients for transitions between all pairs of states in the MSH model is obtained. Besides, the linearized semiclassical NE-FGR formula and a series of semiclassical approximations featuring Wigner and classical nuclear sampling choices and different dynamics during the quantum coherence period for the MSH model are derived. The current approach enables all the possible population transfer pathways between the excited states of the triad, in contrast to the previous applications that only addressed the donor-to-acceptor transition. Our simulations for two triad conformations serve as a demonstration for benchmarking different NE-FGR approximations and show that the difference between all levels of approximation is small for the current system, especially at room temperature. By comparing with nonadiabatic semiclassical dynamics, we observe similar timescales for the electronic population transfer predicted by NE-FGR. It is believed that the general formulation of NE-FGR for the MSH Hamiltonian enables a variety of applications in realistic systems.

AIM: To explore whether and to what extent, nurse-patient assessment differences mediate the association between nurse-to-patient ratios and readiness for hospital discharge, and examine whether nurse-patient characteristics moderate the indirect and/or direct effect of mediation model. DESIGN: A cross-sectional study was carried out from March 2021 to December 2022. METHODS: A total of 523 pairs of gastrointestinal cancer patients with PICC and their nurses were recruited. All the participants were invited to complete the general information questionnaire and the Readiness for Hospital Discharge Scale. Outcome measure was patient-reported readiness for hospital discharge. This study was reported according to the STROBE checklist. RESULTS: The patients reported a low level of readiness for hospital discharge. Nurse-patient assessment differences were positively associated with nurse-to-patient ratios but negatively associated with readiness for hospital discharge. Furthermore, nurse-patient assessment differences fully mediated the effect of nurse-to-patient ratios on readiness for hospital discharge, and age and gender of patients only moderated the indirect path of mediation model.

BACKGROUND: The differences in the resting state spectral power and functional connectivity of the default mode network between people with migraine without aura (MwoA) and its subgroups differentiated by frequency (episodic migraine (EM) and chronic migraine (CM)) and healthy controls (HC) were investigated using magnetoencephalography. METHODS: In the resting state, the topological spatial structure of the brain in 33 MwoA patients and 22 HC was first studied using magnetoencephalography, followed by probing the neuroelectrical activity of 17 CM and 16 EM patients, to identify damage to their default mode network (DMN). The techniques used to investigate both spectral power and functional connectivity were minimum-paradigm estimation combined with Welch's technique and corrected amplitude envelope correlation. RESULTS: The differences between MwoA and its subgroups (CM and EM) and HC based on spectral power were mainly in the delta, theta, and alpha bands, while the differences in functional connectivity were primarily in the delta, alpha, and beta bands. In the delta and theta bands, the spectral power of MwoA and its subgroups (CM and EM) was higher than in the HC group. The spectral power of MwoA and its subgroups (CM and EM) was lower in the alpha band. In terms of functional connectivity, the corrected amplitude envelope correlation of MwoA and its subgroups (CM and EM) was lower than the HC group in the bands with spectral differences. People with EM and CM differed in the spectral power in the left medial prefrontal cortex and the right lateral temporal cortex in the alpha band, where correlation analysis and logistic regression analysis showed that the intensity of the spectral power of the left medial prefrontal cortex was negatively correlated with headache frequency. CONCLUSIONS: The spectral power of the left medial prefrontal cortex in the alpha band may serve as a biomarker that is associated with the number of monthly headache attacks and may be a potential neuromodulatory target for controlling migraine chronicity.

Recently, the lead-free double perovskite Cs2AgBiBr6has been considered as a promising candidate for next-generation nonvolatile memory and artificial synapse devices due to its high stability and low toxicity compared to its lead-based counterparts. In this work, we developed a simple and effective method to produce high-quality lead-free double perovskite Cs2AgBiBr6thin films without pinholes and particles by applying a low-pressure assisted method under ambient condition with a relative humidity (RH) of about 45%. The formation of pinholes and Ag precipitation in the perovskite Cs2AgBiBr6 films is effectively suppressed by the proper ratio of N,N-dimenthylformamide (DMF) mixed in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) solvents. Furthermore, the grain size of the Cs2AgBiBr6films can be significantly increased by increasing the post-annealing temperature. Finally, a sandwiched structure memristor with an ITO/Cs2AgBiBr6/Ta configuration was successfully demonstrated, featuring ultralow operation voltage (VSet∼ 57 ± 23 mV,VReset∼ -692 ± 68 mV) and satisfactory memory window (the ratio ofRHRS/RLRS∼ 10 times), which makes it suitable for low-power consumption information storage devices.

A two-generation reproductive toxicity study was performed to evaluate the effects of cerium nitrate on the development of the parent, offspring, and third generation of Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. A total of 240 SD rats (30 rats/sex/group) were randomly divided into four dosage groups according to body weight: 0 mg/kg, 30 mg/kg, 90 mg/kg, and 270 mg/kg. The rats were administered different dosages of cerium nitrate by oral gavage. There were no observed changes related to cerium nitrate in body weight, food consumption, sperm survival rate, motility, mating rate, conception rate, abortion rate, uterine plus fetal weight, uterine weight, corpus luteum number, implantation rate, live fetus number (rate), stillbirth number (rate), absorbed fetus number (rate), appearance, visceral, and skeletal in rats of each generation dosage group. In addition, the pathological findings showed no significant lesions associated with cerium nitrate toxicity in all tissues and organs, including reproductive organs. In conclusion, the present study showed that long-term oral gavage of cerium nitrate at 30 mg/kg, 90 mg/kg, and 270 mg/kg had no significant effect on reproduction and the developmental ability of their offspring in rats. The no-observed-adverse-effect level (NOAEL) of cerium nitrate in SD rats was higher than 270 mg/kg.

Sustainably-sourced functional nanocellulose materials are vitally important for the green and sustainable development. Herein, we reported photocrosslinkable and hydroplasticable TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofiber phenyl propylene ketone ethers (TOCNPPK) films with excellent ultraviolet (UV) shielding, highly reversible processability, and extended mechanical properties, which were facilitated by green hydroxyl-yne click reaction. The introduction of conjugated aromatic ring and vinyl bonds (-C=C-) had been demonstrated the key for the improved overall performance of resultant TOCNPPK, which not only endowed the TOCNPPK with nearly 100 % UV shielding, but also enabled it to be formed into diverse 3D shapes (helix, ring and letters "N, F, U") via the facile hydrosetting method. The photocrosslinkable-enhanced mechanical performance of TOCNPPK films was also attributed to -C=C- which could crosslink via [2π + 2π] cycloaddition reactions under UV-irradiation. The ultimate stress of TOCNPPK films was as high as 210.0 ± 22.8 MPa and the Young's modulus was 11.5 ± 0.7 GPa, much superior to those of 128.6 ± 8.5 MPa and 9.2 ± 0.6 GPa for pristine TOCN films. Furthermore, the TOCNPPK had been demonstrated as efficient nanofillers for both hydrophilic polyvinyl alcohol and lipophilic polycaprolactone to develop advanced biodegradable composite films with the integration of good water-wetting resistance, excellent UV blocking, and photo-enhanced mechanical performance.
